When my family and I were passing through Memphis, TN we knew we needed to check out what the BBQ scene here had to offer. We asked around to friends who have been or lived in Memphis and we were directed to Central BBQ. Central BBQ has four locations in the Memphis area, one in Nashville, and one in Mississippi. We ended up going to the Midtown location in Memphis. One of the things that I appreciated about this location is that they had a good amount of parking in the back of the building, making it easy to visit this restaurant.
When we walked in, we were not sure what to expect. We have had a lot of bbq in our lives and so we were intrigued to see if this would surpass what we have previously tried or just be mediocre. My husband and I decided to order several different menu items and split them between us so we could try several things. We had an idea of what we wanted to order before I went up to place it. However, when I went up to the cashier to order, she helped direct me to several different menu items than I was planning on that also sounded good.

We decided to start our meal out with the Smoked wings. The restaurant allowed us to pick two different flavors on the wings, which was perfect for us. I initially was going to do all of the wings with the flavor called “sweet heat” but the cashier highly advised me not to get this flavor unless I could handle a lot of spice. With this new information, I ordered the sweet heat for my husband. He loves spicy food! I got the honey gold for myself. The only thing to be aware of here is that the “sweet heat” and “honey gold” flavors both look very similar in color. Be sure to have the person who likes more heat to try them first so you know which flavors are on which wings or ensure you ask the server before they leave the table!
The second thing we ordered was the pork bbq nachos. The first bite I took of these nachos, flavor exploded in my mouth! I have never had anything quite like it. The bbq sauce on the nachos gave it such a unique and delicious flavor. I was a little unsure of them at first but the more I ate them, the more I loved them!
We also ordered two sides to go with our meal. We ordered the bbq beans and the home made potato chips. My husband really enjoyed the beans. I ended up with a bag of the potato chips instead of the side of chips. The cashier suggested I get the bag due to it being a much better value and I trusted her judgement. It also worked well as it allowed us to easily take them to go. We were so full from everything else! The chips had seasoning on them and while I enjoyed them, they were not my favorite. They were also a bit crispier than I would have preferred. Although, I think if you added meat to them like the bbq nachos, that would have made them really good!
My family and I enjoyed our experience at Central BBQ and we highly recommend that you give it a try if you are in Memphis, Nashville, or are going through Mississippi!
