Just recently I visited one of the most unique restaurants in Missouri, Lambert’s Cafe!
Lambert’s Cafe
Lamberts Cafe is a restaurant that I grew up going to off and on during our travels through Missouri. I remember as a kid being amazed by hot fresh rolls sailing through the restaurant air ready to be caught by a hungry patron. I remember thinking that Lambert’s Cafe was one of the best restaurants I had ever been to. We recently went back to Lamberts and it was just as unique and fun as I remember.

Large spaces and so much Decor
When you walk into lamberts, it is like a walk back in time. In the Sikeston, MO location they have an old car that greets you as soon as you open the door. They also have a telephone booth and walls filled with decor and pictures. There is a large waiting area, restrooms, and a gift store all available to entertain you as you wait for your name to be called. The patio is also huge with many fun things to explore such as amish buggies, a ring and hook game, coin operated ride ons for kids, and plenty of seating. When your name is called and you move into the dining space, you will be amazed by how large it is! There are two huge dining rooms filled to the brim with people. These rooms are also filled with all kinds of decorations to look at while dining. It would take you all day to look through the license plates to see all the messages on them!

Rolls, Entree’s, and pass arounds
When you visit Lamberts, I hope you come hungry because there is so much food to eat here. As soon as you walk into the main dining room you will most likely notice what Lambert’s is famous for, throwed rolls! A team member rolls a cart through the dining room and yells “Hot rolls”. When you hear this all you have to do is raise your hand indicating you want one and they will throw one to you across the room! It is such a fun experience. You will want to keep your eyes peeled while eating as I accidentally missed the roll thrown to me and it landed on the table behind me! They were certainly surprised when it landed right on their dinner plate!

Also, almost as soon as you sit down you may have someone come by with what is called a pass around. These include Macaroni and tomatoes, Black eyed peas, Sorghum Molasses and apple butter, fried potatoes and onions (these were my favorite!), and fried okra. These are not foods I typically eat or would order, so it is nice to get to try them without having to pay for them. These will come around multiple times most likely while you are there so no worries if you decide to wait. Your waiter can also ask them to come by with a certain pass around if needed.

When you order your drink, be prepared because it comes in a massive cup! Everything in this restaurant is large. Your entree that you order will also be huge, especially if you get one of the items served in a skillet! Almost all of the entree’s come with two sides. Between the meat, sides, pass arounds, and rolls you will not go hungry and will have food to take home.
Be aware that you are unable to split a meal in the traditional sense but there are several options that you can do to order a little less food. You can get the pass around plate which allows you to eat any of the pass arounds along with all the fresh bread you can eat or you can get the sides plate which is only a $1 more than the pass around plate. The sides plate allows you to select 4 of their homemade sides and also enjoy everything that comes with the pass around plate. If someone is willing to give you some of their entree, this is a great way to split and not have quite so much food.

They also bring around carts with desserts but it is hard to even look at them after eating so much. They look delicious though!
The overall experience at Lambert’s is a fun one and something you will not want to miss. They have three locations with two in Missouri and one in Alabama. Check out their location information here:
