Have you ever had a bite of something that was bursting with flavor at the state fair of Texas? Maybe it was ooey gooey and cheesy, maybe it had some spice to it or was a sweet treat. In addition to these unique treats, there are Fletchers corny dogs! There are many flavors besides the original corny dogs and I am here to share more about them before the State Fair of Texas officially kicks off.
The Original Corny Dog
Nothing says State Fair to me quite like the original corny dog. It’s a classic for a reason. The fried batter has a perfect crunch when you bite into it and the hot dog itself is made with beef and pork. It was originally created in 1942 and you will find that there is no reason to deviate from this original creation. It’s THAT good! If you’ve never had anything at Fletchers, then you should definitely start here!
Jalapeño and Cheese Corny Dog
62 years later, Fletchers created something new and added it to the menu. This would start the beginning of several new flavors in the years to come. The jalapeños and cheese corny dog has the same base and batter but also adds in jalapeños and cheese. As a Texan, how could you go wrong with this combination? This corny dog is one of my husbands favorite flavors to get.
The Bird Dog
In 2011, my favorite fletchers creation was born. Enter the Bird Dog! The bird dog is made with 100% natural turkey breast. I am not typically someone who prefers a turkey dog over one made from beef but it just works so well in this combination!
The Veggie Dog
Four years after the creation of the bird dog, fletchers created the veggie dog. I have to admit, this one has never held much interest for me so I have never given it a try. I do know people who have ordered and enjoyed it though! If you’ve tried it, let me know in the comments what you think!
The Cheezy Pup
My family loves the cheezy pup! Growing up we used to have restaurants called Hot dog on a stick in mall food courts. This restaurant served cheese on a stick and we loved them! Gooey cheese surrounded by delicious batter, could we ask for anything more?! Cheezy pups bring back all that nostalgia for us and we love it. Cheezy pups were created in 2018 and we have bought so many since then! Pro tip: let it sit for a few minutes after receiving it as this will ensure that the cheese inside completely melts before taking a bite!
Make Mine Texan
The Make Mine Texan is Fletchers newest creation, which is similar to the original corny dog except the hot dog is both beef and brisket. This menu item was created in 2021 but I have yet to try it. Hopefully I can try it soon!
