Fletcher’s Corn Dogs at The State Fair of Texas (Updated 2026)

Have you ever tried a Fletcher’s corny dog? They are famous at The State Fair of Texas, and after having a bite, you will know why! While most people opt for the original Corny dog, there are so many different options that are easy to miss. I am here to share more about the different options that you can find at The State Fair of Texas.

The Original Corny Dog

Nothing says State Fair to me quite like the Original Corny Dog. It’s a classic for a reason. The fried batter has a perfect crunch when you bite into it, and the hot dog itself is made with beef and pork. It was originally created in 1942, and you’ll find that it is hard to deviate from this original creation. It’s THAT good! If you’ve never had anything at Fletchers, you should definitely start here! 

Jalapeño and Cheese Corny Dog

Sixty two years after creating their original Corny Dog, Fletchers created something new and added it to the menu. This creation would mark the beginning of several new flavors added to the menu in the years to come. The jalapeños and cheese corny dog has the same base and batter as the original, but also includes jalapeños and cheese. As a Texan, how could you go wrong with this combination? This corny dog is the one that my husband always chooses as his first choice.

The Bird Dog 

In 2011, my favorite fletcher’s creation was born. Enter the Bird Dog! The Bird Dog is made with 100% natural turkey breast. I am not typically someone who prefers a turkey dog over one made from beef, but it just works so well in this combination! I have gone back and forth between the original and the Bird Dog, but I always keep coming back for this one. While the same batter is used, the turkey mixed with the spices and seasonings tastes extra special to me.

The Veggie Dog

Four years after the creation of the Bird Dog, Fletcher’s debuted the Veggie Corny Dog. I have to admit, this one has never held much interest for me so I have never given it a try. I do know people who have ordered and enjoyed it, though! If you’ve tried it, let me know in the comments what you think!

The Cheezy Pup

My family loves the cheezy pup! Growing up, we used to have restaurants called Hot dog on a Stick in mall food courts. This restaurant served cheese on a stick and we loved them! Gooey cheese surrounded by delicious batter – could we ask for anything more?! Cheezy pups bring back all that nostalgia for us and we love it. Cheezy pups were created in 2018, and we have bought so many since then! Pro tip: when you order the cheezy pup, let it sit for a few minutes before eating it. This will ensure that the cheese inside completely melts before taking your first bite! 

Make Mine Texan

The Make Mine Texan is one of Fletchers newest creations. It’s similar to the Original Corny Dog, except the hot dog is made with both beef and brisket. This menu item was created in 2021, but I have yet to try it.  Have you tried this one before? Should I give it a try? Let me know in the comments!

Chocolate Corny Dog (New for 2026!)

Every year, the Texas State Fair has a contest for the best new foods called the Big Tex Choice Awards. They have several different categories, including “Best Taste-Sweet”. Well, you guessed it: Fletchers Chocolate Corny Dog won this category in 2026. When I saw this, I knew I had to try it, as I love all things Fletcher’s. The Chocolate Corny Dog comes with a topping of yellow icing to look like mustard and a side of raspberry sauce to look like ketchup. It’s such a fun twist on their Original Corny Dog. My family and I went on opening day of the fair this year, and this was high on my list of new foods to try. When we ordered ours, we knew why it had won in the sweet category, it was delicious! The icing and raspberry sauce truly add that extra special touch to the chocolate filling. You will not want to miss trying this new flavor!
