My husband and I are on a mission to visit all of Texas’ great state parks and also get a stamp for each one in our Texas State Parks passport book. So…we decided to visit Longhorn Cavern State Park one as my husband loves caves and there was another state park so close!

We visited over the Fourth of July holiday and the nice thing is, this cave is naturally 68 Degrees all year long! The perfect activity for a hot summer day in Texas.
Tours run every 30 minutes and I easily snagged a slot on an online reservation before we went. We arrived about an hour before our chosen time and they were so kind to let us leave with the next group. This may not have been possible if it had been busier, but we were grateful we didn’t have to wait around until our tour time.

The tour guides here are very knowledgeable and tell you about its history and how the CCC built many aspects of the park.
There is also an observation deck that was built by the CCC where you can go up and see out to the surrounding area. It has a great view and is a short walk or drive from the visitor center and cave. The winding staircase is a bit steep so be aware of that if you decide to go up.
We were unable to explore the nature trail on the property during this visit, but we enjoyed getting to see the cave and the observation area.
Have you ever visited this park? What did you like about it? Let me know in the comments!
